The program provides assistance to families in Travis County who live outside the geographical city limits of Austin. The adults in the families apply at the area Rural Community Centers, closest to their residence, for assistance.  The requirements to be a recipient for the program are:

1. The household is at or below the minimum poverty guidelines as established by the US government (or)

2. Extenuating circumstances within the family has caused substantial inconvenience to be able to provide for basic necessities.

3. Families must apply by the deadline date of each year. The application deadline for 2009 is December 11th. 

4. Families that are picked to be recipients of Brown Santa will be notified when they apply of their delivery date. The recipient will be mailed a reminder post card,  the post card will have the date, time and place to pick up their Christmas package. It is very important that the recipient arrive to their designated delivery date/time, as there is only one date/time for each location.  Recipients can not go to the warehouse to pick up their Christmas package.

5. To apply you have to live outside the city limits of Austin in the unincorporated areas of Travis County.

6. Applicants need to take a picture ID, proof of residence, (electric bill, etc), one application per household, and the applicant needs to list everyone that lives within their household on the application.
