The program provides assistance to families in Travis County who live outside the geographical city limits of Austin. The adults in the families apply at the area Rural Community Centers, closest to their residence, for assistance.  The requirements to be a recipient for the program are:

1. The household is at or below the minimum poverty guidelines as established by the US government (or)

2. Extenuating circumstances within the family has caused substantial inconvenience to be able to provide for basic necessities.

3. Families must apply by the deadline date of each year. The application deadline for 2011 is Thursday December 8th. 

4. Families that are picked to be recipients of Brown Santa will be notified when they apply of their delivery date. The recipient will be mailed a reminder post card,  the post card will have the date, time and place to pick up their Christmas package. It is very important that the recipient arrive to their designated delivery date/time, as there is only one date/time for each location.  Recipients can not go to the warehouse to pick up their Christmas package.

5. To apply you have to live outside the city limits of Austin in the unincorporated areas of Travis County.

6. To apply for Christmas Assistance, you need to have two proofs of address (1) an identification with a picture and (2) proof of your address, such as a utility bill, lease or insurance card. You can only apply for your own household and the children listed on the application must reside in that household. Proof of age must be provided for all children (school records or shot records). Brown Santa provides to children ages  0-14 years of age.
